kawuku sound is the coming together of uk producers contours & cervo and ugandan percussion troupe fonkodelis arkestra. this is the culmination of a month-long creative process that was born out of the nyege nyege affiliated boutiq studio in kawuku, kampala - uganda. the music was written and recorded in this shared residency space, home to musicians and visual artists from all over east africa and beyond, and a hub for kampala s underground electronic music scene. boutiq studio s diy mentality provided the perfect environment for experimentation, allowing the fusion of these disparate sounds. kawuku sound is a reflection of this, merging the hypnotic and trance-inducing percussion of buganda drumming with elements of contemporary electronics and traditional instrumentation. this the first album release to come out on manchester imprint banana hill as they continue to push the boundaries of afro-electronic sounds.

for our second release of 2018 ears have eyes are back with the third instalment of our throng of orbs compilation series. this time around we welcome back old friends, and bring in some new names to the ehe fold, with a collection of tracks spanning deep emotive house music, broken beats and acid dancefloor pressure. first up we have contours, who burst onto the scene in 2015 with an excellent release on the mighty rhythm section, and has put out a slew of great records since then. dither takes time to unfold, but when the fluid acid line emerges from the heady percussion he really sets up the track for dancefloor perfection. for the a2 we welcome back chocky to the label, and he serves up a slice of weighty house music that drips quality and emotion. pickle dat kicks off with an absolute beauty of a groove, understated but weighty, and from there chocky goes on to sprinkle just the right amount of seasoning, with soulful rhodes licks and a wonderful bass line. off the back of their excellent 12- on love on the rocks, elles x violet kick off the b side with yrnyb, a tried and tested dancefloor destroyer. when we heard elles playing this in a dark basement in peckham, we just had to sign it. sometimes a kick drum, an acid line and a half heard vocal is all you need. finishing off the release we have dublin artist replete serving up a lovely slice of hazy, percussive house music that slowly builds to a crescendo. an acidic bassline sits nicely over congas and a warm, rounded kick drum.

it�s been three rough years since mirrors for psychic warfare sprang into existence with their startling self titled debut, but don�t think for a second that the time was spent idle, this unit (comprised of neurosis� scott kelly and producer sanford parker) constructed an even more unnerving and destructive record with �i see what i became,� i know, hard to believe. over the course of these eight bile-rich pieces a sonic abattoir is erected, exploited, and razed. turbulence rises and churns giving way to rhythmic machinations, lights flicker, a grand mal/guignol seizure besets a frog-headed snitch, blood collects in a stainless steel gutter. claustrophobic sudor that evokes all you held dear from skinny puppy, foetus, godflesh, bath tub tina, and wondering where the fuck you will sleep, provided you ever do. there�s nothing fun here, nothing but the cold of an autopsy followed by the heat of a crematorium. a sliver of galvanized bone flies from a circular saw into the toothless maw of a streetwalking kali yuga. good or bad, i�m not sure what we did to deserve this.

korpus 9 records kicks off with a brand new ep from dubspeeka, featuring four tracks of high impact and atmospheric techno. korpus 9 records is a brand new techno label from russia managed by kwazalski. the main aim of the label is to release fresh and innovative material, not only digitally, but also on vinyl. all the imagery and influences of the label come from an abandoned research station that is deep underwater, where unusual events are happening around it on a constant basis. charged with the first release is shadowy bristolian producer dubspeeka, who has put out his music on drumcode, senso sounds and get physical, runs skeleton recordings and has a fierce techno sound. the opener here is garrison, a driving number with heavy drums and a warm but edgy mood. garrison 2 is more spaced out, with celestial pads baring a feeling of suspense above the firmly rooted drums. garrison 3 then has lumpy drums that bob up and down, as acid lines, water sounds and metallic hits all add atmosphere to the cavernous groove. last of all, garrison 4 is an eerie dub techno track with real drive but also plenty of thoughtful emotions. it closes out a brilliant first ep on this exciting new label.

the poverty is violence stable are firmly established now as an essential conductor for rabid, rowdy and downright rasping mechanics from subterranean operators of all shapes and sizes. anonymous but reportedly veteran dutch producer xxx previously appeared on the label in 2016 with the wild noorder scannen 12-, and now returns with a bludgeoning new release. there s a consistent metal grind to the percussion on westzaan doelen, while the synth tones in between tend towards the jagged and abrasive, there s space and poise in the arrangement to lift this out of knuckleheaded noise. -don t go after her- reverberates with clamouring intensity while the beefy chassis of -just the two of you- shimmers under an acidic glaze - this is full-tilt deviant music executed with finesse to match the grime.

approaching complexity is tangent�s sophomore album release for n5md, a label that has seen accomplished releases from the likes of near the parenthesis, bvdub, and loess among others. throughout its nine offerings, the record features a gorgeous contemplative piano that hangs in the air amidst static clicks and dense atmospheres. its delicate touch feels both melancholic and stirring, as exemplified on tracks �equilibrium i (ii & ii)� and �awaken.� the latter cut is a fascinating work comprised of nearly inaudible whisper-song vocals and swelling ambience, its waves a thick froth of a toppled surf underneath tickled ivory. like the rise and fall of a heavy chest, this sound leads to the track�s conclusion, an elongated departure of breath.
a similar ending can be heard on the track �redundancy� which is complemented by the official video premiering at igloo magazine. jittering frames of concrete grass animations are edited to the rhythmic snippy percussion. this is juxtaposed by images of ice cascading off a rocket launch in slow motion and vapor in reverse. see below.
at almost an hour in length tangent�s new album is their most complete sonically, never straying from its core essence. a quality release that in its nature is both bound to existence and is otherworldly in its simplistic beauty.
the orange vinyl release features 6 tracks and includes a doanload code for the full 9-track album.

by now, the story of how jlin went from working in a steel factory in gary, indiana to being one of the most widely appreciated electronic musicians is well known. �black origami� was one of the most lauded albums last year. seriously prolific and seriously hard-working, she has toured constantly since its may 2017 release and despite being involved in a wide range of projects, still manages to find a balance and time to �do some personal healing and growing.�
here we are over a year later with �autobiography,� the score for her collaboration with renowned british choreographer wayne mcgregor (a collaboration arranged by krakow�s unsound). this isn�t technically her third album (that�s due to arrive in 2019 or 2020), but the soundtrack stands up on its own with all the emotional peaks and troughs of a well-sequenced lp.

victor simonelli opens up the vaults once more to unlock groove committee s dirty games , the follow up to the seminal i want you to know . taking the blueprint from his timeless house classic, simonelli reworked the bassline for this 92 follow up whilst holding onto that sublimely simple yet powerful chord progression, one that never fails to put a smile on the face. add in a helping of swung hats and crunched up shakers and this is a classic by anyone s standards. the vocals - a charged up, evocative warning to a mistreating lover - fit the nyc garage house rhythm so perfectly and deliver a raw emotion to the track. next up the dubb mix kicks off with the accapella vocals laid bare in all their glory, before that piano progression lays the path for the full force of dirty games to make its impact. there s more space between the vocals in this dub mix, allowing simonelli s production prowess room to breathe. a surefire spine tingler from start to finish. on the b side, simonelli offers up his 1993 re-edit, extending, elongating and beefing up certain elements to captivate audiences all over again. closing out the e.p. is groove committee s 93 track i wana hold you produced in collaboration with glenn sweety g toby - it follows that same garage house shuffling rhythm, with soul-laden organs and paula brion s killer vocals. another much welcomed reissue of some of victor simonelli s most sought after tracks, remastered by the man himself for a new generation of listeners.
